  1. Diabetes often goes undiagnosed because many of its symptoms seem so harmless. Recent studies indicate that the early detection of diabetes symptoms and treatment can decrease the chance of developing the complications of diabetes.

    Some diabetes symptoms include:

    Frequent urination
    Excessive thirst
    Extreme hunger
    Unusual weight loss
    Increased fatigue
    Irritability
    Blurry vision
If you have one or more of these diabetes symptoms, see your doctor right away.

  2. Classical symptoms of diabetes are polyphagia, polydypsia and polyuria, accompanied by progressive weight loss. Today, most diabetics are diagnosed long before they have any real symptoms on the basis of elevated blood glucose (sugar) levels and are found to have a glycohemoglobin of 7.0% or more.

I know of one very athletic person whose diabetes diagnosis was delayed for ten years because his blood sugars were always normal due to his high level of activity — his presenting symptom was peripheral neuropathy.

  3. Alot of drug stores and chemists now do a free diabetes test, so its worth checking out, of just seeinf ur doctor if your worried :)

  4. Newly presenting type 1 diabetics often have symptoms of hyperglycemia: increased urination, excessive thirst, sleepy, irritable. Most people get a fruity smell to their breath and pores. Some have very labored breathing for no reason. Hyperglycemia is high blood sugar. Your body works off a pretty simple recipe to make energy… Sugar + insulin = fat cells. Your pancreas provides the insulin, but a diabetic doesn’t make insulin. Without it, the sugar sits in the blood and you get “high blood sugar” or hyperglycemia. Untreated, hyperglycemia evolves into diabetic ketoacidosis and death is imminent.

Low blood sugar symptoms (hypoglycemia) include irritability, drowsiness, sweaty (for no reason), starving and shaky. Low blood sugar in a diabetic results from too much insulin, too much exercise, or too much time between eating.

  5. When I was first diagnosed I was really REALLY tired. that was at the end though. The days before it was just the same as the others mentioned – peeing all the time, so so thirsty. I’d barely put the cup down and it was like I hadn’t had a thing to drink. when I’m low i’m really tired, b1tchy, shaky and sweaty.
